Alt-j - An Awesome Wave
I linked to the stream last week, but the album was properly released this week. It still sounds so fresh, they really have their own individual sound, which is very rarely the case.
Tesselate, and Breezeblocks are the two stands out for me, the swaying rhythms of broody basslines against the skitish precussion. The album really has a rhythm to it, both within the songs, but also the gentle interludes between the songs. You can see why the album is An Awesome Wave there is the current of the waves reflected right at you. The vocals are also great, there’s a back and forth between the band, similar to Wild Beasts, often like thoughts bouncing back and forth.
I can imagine I will come back to playing this for a while, I haven’t fell for an album as quickly as this for a while.
SBTRKT - Gamelena
A new track from producer SBTRKT He left a brief introduction to the song;
back in the studio. working towards eps/ album/ etc…. something new - no plan for it - just thought id share
It sounds a bit different to some of the album, I look forward to seeing him this summer at a festival or two.

It sounds great even on the first listen. It reminds me of when I first heard the tUnE yArDs album last year, this really does sound individual.

The Walkmen - We Can’t Be Beat
Great new song from The Walkmen, the album Heaven is out on May 28th. I really do think The Walkmen are under-rated, Lisbon was a great album and I don’t think it got the notice it deserved
